Congresswoman Victoria Spartz announced on Apr. 14 that she will hold a live policy discussion on X Spaces this Thursday, April 16, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The event, titled “FISA Reauthorization: How Much Surveillance Is Too Much?”, will feature former Congressman Matt Gaetz and Jake Laperruque, a policy expert from the Center for Democracy and Technology.
The discussion aims to address ongoing debates surrounding Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which was enacted in 2008 following the events of September 11. According to Spartz’s office, Section 702 allows targeting of non-U.S. persons outside the United States for foreign intelligence purposes but has faced criticism due to identified violations by the FISA Court and concerns over data collection involving U.S. citizens.
Audience members will have an opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session during the live briefing by joining through Rep. Spartz’s official page on X (@RepSpartz) at the time of the event.
