Cost of college went up for all students at Ball State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.2 percent for 2018-19 at Ball State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Indiana residents paid $9,896 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $122 more than the $9,774 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 167.5 percent more than residents this year, or $26,468. Their price tag grew 2 percent from $25,942 in 2017-18.

About 85 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Indiana residents. And about 15 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 90 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 3,578 students received grants or scholarships totaling $35.6 million and 2,613 students took out student loans totaling more than $20.5 million.

Including all undergraduates (21,884), 11,705 students used grants or scholarships totaling $128.3 million, and 9,650 students took out $69.4 million in federal student loans.
