Diving Into The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships

Four of Ball State's divers return to action Thursday and Friday when they compete at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships hosted by Indiana at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.

 

Action begins at 1 p.m. Thursday with the men competing on 1M and women on 3M. Friday's events, with also start at 1 p.m., will be flipped with the men competing on 3M and women on 1M.

 

Overall, there are 31 men and 63 women entered on the 1M board and 29 men and 52 women set to compete on the 3M board this week. The top 18 divers on each board will advance out of the prelims/quarterfinals to the zone championship round.

 

From there the top nine men on 1M and top eight men on 3M will advance to the NCAA Championships (March 22-25 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, MN). 

 

On the women's side, the top 10 women on 1M and top nine on 3M advance out of zones to the NCAA Championships (March 15-18 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, TN).

 

Representing the Cardinals at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships will be:

 

Wyatt Blake - Sr. - 1M & 3M

Placed 12th on 1M (240.60) and 11th on 3M (256.20) at the 2023 Mid-American Conference Championships … Broke the program record on the 3M board at the Miami Classic (Feb. 11) with a preliminary round score of 359.25 … Also tallied the second-best 1M score in program history with a preliminary round score of 337.45 at the Miami Classic (Feb. 10) … has six individual wins in the diving well this season and was named the MAC Diver of the Week after his performance at the Miami Classic.

 

Porter Brovont - Fr. - 1M & 3M

The 2023 MAC Freshman Diver of the Year, Brovont placed second on both 1M (303.65) and 3M (298.00) at the 2023 MAC Swimming & Diving Championships to earn All-MAC Second Team accolades … Brovont's 1M score at the MAC Championships is the 10th-best individual effort in program history … He also ranks eighth on Ball State's all-time list with his 3M score of 325.20 versus Miami (Jan. 21) … Brovont has one individual diving victory of the season, winning 1M at Indiana State (Jan. 14) which earned him MAC Diver of the Week honors.

 

Maddy Hischer - Fr. - 1M & 3M

Placed 14th on 3M (250.20) and 17th on 1M (231.57) at the 2023 MAC Swimming & Diving Championships … Qualified for the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships with wins on both the 1M (279.68) and 3M (307.20) in a home diving duel versus Anderson (Jan. 28) … Turned in the second-best individual 3M score in program history to win the event at the Miami Classic (Feb. 10) at 333.10 … In addition, her 279.69 versus Anderson is the eighth best 1M score on Ball State's all-time list … A two-time MAC Diver of the Week.

 

Ashleigh Provan - So. - 1M & 3M

Placed eighth on 3M (253.80) and 14th on 1M (236.07) at the 2023 MAC Swimming & Diving Championships … Qualified for Zones on the 1M board after picking up the victory versus Miami (Jan. 21) with a score of 277.58 … Also won the 3M competition versus the RedHawks … Achieved her 3M Zone qualifying score the following week with a mark of 301.95 versus Anderson (Jan. 28) … Turned in a career-best 3M score of 312.95, which ranks fifth in program history, in the prelims of the Miami Classic (Feb. 10) … Also scored 286.90 in the 1M prelims at the Miami Classic (Feb. 11) to move into sixth in program history.
